May Day again

Happy May Day, the birthday of this half-asleep blog!

It is a depressing day for the nation, as several workers were arrested, reads the headline:
Demo Hari Buruh: Enam ditahan polis,

Personally, it was a nice day for me, as I had a one-day trip to Penang, 6 am till 8 pm,
to visit Mom and a dear friend HM Kaik Hong. We also made a trip to Pantai Remis
to attend an opening ceremony of a Fishery Company belonging to Teck Heng's
business partner. Furthermore, it was a superb day for being able to have a trip-long
chat with my buddy-friend of 40 years, Teck Heng; as well as coming back with my daughter.

I am hopeful of a better year for Malaysian labour, as the Malaysian HR Ministry
is talking about Minimum Pay, as issue which has been championed by the Opposition
& MTUC. Unless the present government does something more proactively for our
workers, we shall see a change to a more workers-friendly government soon... very soon indeed!

22nd December

Today is a Special Day! It is the Winter Solstice (between December 21 and December 22) for the Northern Hemisphere. The earth's axial tilt is furthest away from the sun at its maximum of 23° 26'. Today marks the shortest day and longest night in the North, as the Sun shines directly over the tropic of Capricorn.

For the Chinese, we call today the Extreme of Winter (冬至; Dōng zhì). After today, there will be days with longer daylight hours and therefore an increase in the flowing in of positive energy. The Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together, eating Tāng Yuán (湯圓) or balls of glutinous rice, which symbolize reunion.

I have eaten my tangyuan, thanks to Siew Lee and Zhini. For those who read this series of short compilation, just to inform you that today is my birthday, in case you haven't known this. Thanks for all the kind wishes. May all of you be well and happy always!
